Bahia Feliz - Golf courses

In Gran Canaria one can play golf every day of the year while enjoying our perfect weather.

When it comes to golf tourism, Gran Canaria has a distinct competitive advantage over other destinations in the world on account of the climate and the fact that it is possible to practise this sport 365 days of the year.

The island played a pioneering role with regard to golf in Spain, as the first golf course in the country was built at Escaleritas in 1891, followed by another in Bandamas in 1957. The first members of the Club Decano de España (known today as Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas) were members of the English colony on Gran Canaria, providing another example of the strong influence that Britain had on the birth of the island´s tourism industry.

Despite the fact that Gran Canaria was a pioneer in including this sport, the development of the island's golfing infrastructure initially lagged behind that of other destinations, with most of the golf courses being of relatively recent construction, which means a clear advantage for the island as it has modern golf courses adapted to the most demanding golf players.

At present, there are six golf courses throughout Gran Canaria, although they are all situated within a maximum radius of 50 kilometres. Thus you can always try different courses within short distances. Four new golf courses are currently under construction. The golf courses have been designed by the most prestigious international golf course designers and they all boast exceptional features. There is no doubt why national and international tournaments are held throughout the year.

The golf courses on Gran Canaria have another important competitive advantage, namely their price, which is well below the average in other areas. The 18-hole courses on the island charge a green fee of around Euros 50 during off-season (from May to September) and around Euros 70 during the rest of the year, which make them even more appealing when you take into account the quality of the facilities and installations they offer.
